Bowie Food Pantry collection March 12
This month the Bowie Food Pantry is in need of some different items. They are asking for: Rice in boxes or microwaveable-No Bags, Condiments such salad dressing, mustard, etc, jelly, peanut butter in 16-18oz jars. Thank you for bringing your donations to church on Sunday, March 12th. Social Justice Biographies of the Saints March 5 and 19 after the 10:00 am Service On Sunday March 5 the Rev. Charles Hoffacker will lead a learning conversation about Frances Perkins, the woman behind the New Deal, and on March 19 about Maria Skobtsova, an Orthodox nun active in Paris during the German occupation. Both conversations will take place in the sanctuary from 11:45-12:30. Frances Perkins was the United States Labor Secretary from 1933 to 1945. Motivated by her strong Episcopal faith, she contributed to major New Deal programs such as Social Security, Unemployment Insurance, and the Minimum Wage. She also advocated for Jewish refugees from Nazism. May 13 is her annual feast day on the calendar of the Episcopal Church. Intrigued? Come Sunday to learn more! Sunday March 12: Virtual Q&A with Community Crisis Services, Inc On Sunday March 12th at 11:30AM, following the 10AM service, we will have a special live virtual Q&A with a presenter from the Community Crisis Services, Inc, the organization that runs the Warm Nights homeless shelter program (for which St George's makes sandwiches once a month). CCSI, which began as a volunteer hotline service, not only provides services for those experiencing homelessness in Prince George’s County but many groups encountering crisis, including domestic violence victims, those experiencing mental health emergencies, teens, LGBTQ people, those suffering epidemic illnesses, and others in need. Please join us in the Sanctuary or on Zoom to give CCSI and Warm Nights your consideration, your questions, and find out how we can better support their life-saving work. |
