General Convention Notes • Every three years elected representatives of each diocese throughout the Episcopal Church gather for the General Convention to do the business of the church. Of note is that Presiding Bishop Michael Curry is coming to the end of his nine-year term. The Rt. Rev. Sean Rowe, Bishop of Northwestern Pennsylvania and Western New York was elected by the House of Bishops to be the new Presiding Bishop. He will begin his new role on All Saints Day, November 1, 2024. • Among many other things that happened at General Convention, St. Georgians may appreciate this: Deputy Matthew Taylor’s proposed resolution to add St. George to the Episcopal Calendar passed as part of a list of additional names for commemoration. St. George will be celebrated on May 6 each year. We will continue to celebrate St. George on April 23, as we always have, but now he is officially part of the Episcopal calendar of saints! |
