St. George's Lenten Outreach Project
Please support a local Social Service agency this Lent. This year our Lenten collection is offered for the benefit of Community Crisis Services Inc. (CCSI).  CCSI manages the Warm Nights Shelter, a domestic violence assistance program and a 24 hour crisis hotline. There is a Lenten calendar available below or Here's the link! to show the offering options and daily prayer and meditation reflections. We hope you use the calendar as a reminder of our Lenten outreach to support CCSI and its clients.  Your donations can help many of our neighbors in Prince George’s County. A donation of 50 cents a day for each of the 40 days of Lent will provide $20 to help others, and $1.00 a day will total $40. At the end of Lent, please make your donation online on our websites donation page or send a check with a notation that it is your Lenten donation. If possible, please return your donations by April 18.

Lenten Materials for Families
St. George's wanted to share a special Lenten program with our parish families. Starting with Ash Wednesday, An Illustrated Lent for Families: Reflections on the Heart includes weekly devotions, activities, and coloring pages for families to use during Lent. We sent materials in the mail, but wanted to share the link as well in case you need more copies of certain pages. Enjoy!

Raising the Roof!
The wardens and rector have determined that we can safely raise the number of people in Sunday worship. Starting this Sunday, February 28, there will be 25 slots available for Sunday 10:00 am service. Don’t forget to preregister- you can find that link here.

Information Regarding Vaccine Distribution
From the Maryland Department of Health:
In an effort to provide equitable access to COVID-19 vaccine information and appointments to all eligible Maryland residents, Governor Hogan has launched the COVID-19 Vaccination Support Center at 1-855-MDGOVAX (1-855-634-6829).
We invite Marylanders to call and speak with live support center advocates 7 days a week from 7am – 10pm.  Support center advocates can provide information on COVID-19 and Maryland’s vaccination efforts as well as schedule vaccination appointments at the states mass vaccination sites.  Residents may also receive assistance in identifying vaccine providers closest to their home.
Maryland’s first mass vaccination site is located at Six Flags America at 13710 Central Avenue, Upper Marlboro, MD 20721.  We urge residents with transportation to and from the facility to call in and schedule vaccination appointments as they become available.

Mini Forum for Vestry Candidates on Sunday, February 14 at 11:30 am
With the Annual Parish Meeting next weekend,  we would like to offer an opportunity for the parish to meet the candidates who are running for vestry.  This will happen on Sunday, February 14 at 11:30 during our regular hospitality time.  Sign on to the hospitality Zoom link  to hear from the candidates and match faces with names, in preparation for the vestry election at the Annual Meeting on Sunday February 21.

St. George's Ash Wednesday Details & Offerings February 17th
The season of Lent begins on February 17 with Ash Wednesday.  On this day we are invited to take stock of our lives and our faith and start to discern what might be necessary for renewal in our ongoing efforts  to love God with heart, soul, mind and strength and our neighbors as ourselves. We do this using the ashes of previous Palm Sunday palms and by reflecting on our mortality, on true repentance, and how we might make amends for the wrongs we have done.
Though it is necessary to adjust our usual rituals of Ash Wednesday because of Covid, there is still opportunity for prayer, for imposition of ashes, and for Holy Communion, as follows:
11:00 am - 1:00 pm and  5:00 - 6:00 pm:  Outdoor Individual Prayer and Imposition of Ashes, with Optional Holy Communion
Connie+ will be available between 11 am and 1 pm and again from 5 - 6 pm for prayers outside in front of the church.  Connie+ will offer imposition of ashes, or if you prefer you may make the cross of ashes on yourself.
Similarly for those who would like to receive Holy Communion that option will be available, which Connie+ can serve to you or you can self-serve as you feel comfortable.  You can come by anytime during these hours.
7:00 pm Zoom Service from the Chapel
In addition, there will be an Ash Wednesday Evening Prayer celebrated from the Chapel at 7:00 pm, which the congregation can access via Zoom. Here is the link. The service will include the Litany of Penitence, the recitation of Psalm 51, and a sermon from the rector. Or call in by phone at (301) 715 8592 and when prompted enter the Meeting ID: 954 6802 7675

Carnival Evening Prayer on February 16 at 7:00 pm
It has been called “Shrove Tuesday” since the Middle Ages in Europe, or “Fat Tuesday” for those who do Mardi Gras, but in the Caribbean the day before the start of  Lent is “Carnival.”  Join us on Zoom as we do a special Evening Prayer service at 7:00 pm on Zoom that will incorporate music evocative of Carnival. Here is the Evening Prayer link for the zoom meeting. Or call in by phone at (301) 715 8592 and when prompted enter the Meeting ID: 992-6407-1227.

Fifty Day Bible Challenge on The Gospel of John Starts February 24
If you are looking for a devotional practice of reading scripture during the season of Lent, consider joining a study of the Gospel of John.  We will use the Fifty Day Bible Challenge book, reading a passage of the gospel every day along with a brief reflection, and gathering once a week to reflect together.  The study will be on Wednesday evenings at 7 pm starting February 24, and conclude with the night prayer service of Compline at 8:00.  It will run eight meetings, from February 24 through April 21, taking Wednesday March 31 off to observe Holy Week.  If you would like to participate you can contact Terry Doyle at  [email protected] or Connie - just let them know so we can order the books.

2021 Annual Meeting to be Held February 21
The Annual Meeting of St. George’s Church, Glenn Dale Parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington will be held on Sunday, February 21 at 10:30 am.  The worship service that day will be at 9:00 am, before commencement of the Annual Meeting at 10:30.  It will be held virtually via Zoom and be live-streamed from the sanctuary. There will be no virtual hospitality that day.  All members of the parish who are in good standing have voice and vote at the meeting. There will be a mechanism for voting and those details will be forthcoming.
The Parish Annual Meeting is our opportunity each year to talk about the state of the parish, update parishioners on our financial status, elect vestry members and parish delegates, express our gratitude to those who have served, and do any other necessary business of the church. We would like everyone’s participation.
