Discover, Embrace, Become series to begin October 2, 2023
This fall, St. George’s will be offering the first module of the Discover, Embrace, Become series provided by the Episcopal Diocese of Washington’s School for Christian Faith & Leadership. The Discover, Embrace, Become series is an invitation to deeper engagement with Christian life suitable for both newcomers and longtime parishioners called to go deeper into their faith.
The Discover module consists of six sessions where we will listen to God in our lives and in Scripture. Each session includes a brief video lesson, a discussion about our spiritual journeys, a Scripture reflection, and a closing prayer. By sharing our stories and studying Scripture, we will explore how God is working in our lives and calling us to go deeper.
We will meet at 7pm on Mondays beginning October 2. If you would like to join, please sign up in the Narthex or speak to Terry Doyle or Karen Horrocks.
Game Night Returns!
Join us for an evening of games and fun on September 30 from 5-8 pm in Miller Hall. Just bring a snack to share and a favorite game if you wish- we’ll also have many to choose from. Questions? Ask Mary Frances Bruce or Christine Bloecker.

Social Justice Biography of the Saints Sept 24
Endicott Peabody will be the subject of our next Social Justice Saints presentation on Sunday, September 24 at 11:30 am.  The Rev. Charles Hoffacker will introduce us to Endicott Peabody, Episcopal priest and founding headmaster of the Groton School.  Peabody served as spiritual father to President Franklin Roosevelt not only during Roosevelt's school days but throughout his adult life.  Through Peabody the Social Gospel tradition shaped the New Deal and had an abiding influence on the United States.

The New St. George's T-Shirts are here
What says happy 150 years better than new church t-shirts? The shirts are IN and ready to be picked up! (See Roy Peterson today to get yours).  We ask that you pay for your shirts when you get them if you haven't already. Please note “t-shirts” in the memo line of your payment. If you would like to purchase a shirt but didn't get your form in, we do have a few extras in several colors and sizes (we don't have any extra kid sizes).  The cost is $15.00 for kid shirts and $22.00 for adult shirts.

Use of Biodegradable Communion Cups is Starting!
We are pleased to say that starting next weekend St. George's will be using biodegradable cups for our celebration of Communion. They are 100% plant based and compostable so this is another way we as a faith community can care for our earth.  There will be a special basket lined with a compostable bag placed in the sanctuary (and clearly labeled) where we ask that you place your cup after you receive the wine.  We are also looking for volunteers who would take the cups home every two weeks or so and place them in your home compost.  Speak to Connie+ if you'd like more information.

September 10 Potluck Picnic at Highbridge Park
The celebration of St. George's 150th continues with a picnic at Highbridge Park at 6800 Highbridge Road, Bowie MD.  It will start at 11:30 after the 10:00 service.  St. George's will provide some food and invites you to bring a dish to share.  Come and enjoy fun and fellowship as we celebrate the St. George's community! We encourage everyone to carpool and bring a lawn or beach chair.
