A Note About Easter Flowers
There will be flowers on the altar for Easter this year, though given the current circumstances the amount of flowers will be scaled back dramatically.   You are invited to submit names of those you wish to remember or give thanks for as you normally would.  Please email the office at   office@stgeo.comcastbiz.net with names you would like included, notating which are memorials and which are thanksgivings.  You can contact Roseann in the office with any questions.

Lenten Outreach

World Central Kitchen is our Lenten collection focus this year. WCK is a direct service charity that uses the skills of restauranteurs to provide food during crisis periods. On site after hurricanes, earthquakes and other natural disasters, they are now stepping up in response to the pandemic. Please remember WCK this Lent as they work to help those who are least able to meet this crisis. We aren’t in church but we can still fill our Lenten envelope
 Online Prayer Resources
In this time when we can't be together for prayer, there are any number of online prayer resources.  Two that members of St. George's have particularly found meaningful Pray as you Go, which is a 10-15 prayer with music, scripture, and reflection, and Mission St. Clare, which does the Daily Office, prayers from the Episcopal tradition one can do at home or in community at different times during the day. Go to pray-as-you-go.org/home/ and www.missionstclare.com/english

Virtual Evening Prayer
Every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:00 PM

We will be holding a short virtual Evening Prayer Service twice weekly on Tuesday and Thursday evenings using the Zoom platform. This will be a time for evening prayer, time to touch base with one another, to share our prayer intentions socialize. We hope to record the service so you can access it anytime.

Here is how it works: you can join with your computer or a smart phone. The link to use each time is https://zoom.us/j/113669011. You also may be asked for the meeting ID:  113 669 011.

You can also dial in by phone. Call: +1 301 715 8592 and when prompted enter the nine-digit Meeting ID:  113 779 011. You do not need to enter a participant ID when you use the phone. Questions? Contact Terry Doyle TerrenceDoyle@msn.com or call (301) 503-5389.

Parish Retreat Plans Change.
In light of the coronavirus pandemic and Bishop Mariann’s moratorium regarding church gatherings, we cannot go forward with our planned parish retreat.  The retreat team will investigate possibilities for a future retreat and will let you know as our research evolves.  If you have already made a retreat payment, contact Mary Frances Bruce (maryfbruce@yahoo.com) or Ed Neuschler (edneuschler@gmail.com) to arrange your refund.  In the meantime, we will be in touch electronically with “retreat in place” ideas to help us navigate this trying time. In spirit, let us be mindful that we are all connected as one!
Prayer Requests for This Sunday and Beyond
You are invited to share your prayers and petitions for our world and for one another for our Sunday worship, to be incorporated into the Prayers of the People. What are your prayers?

The church commends us to pray in these six areas:  For those in positions of authority…. For the welfare of our community, our families and friends … For those who are most vulnerable in our midst … In thanksgiving for one another, and for all of those who reach out to us and to others who are in need … for healing in mind, body and spirit … for those who have died ... If you would like your prayers to be part of the service this Sunday, March 22, please send them to Terry Doyle at TerrenceDoyle@msn.com by 4:00 PM Saturday, March 21.

Also, you can always call or email Roseann at the office with your prayer request information. 301-262-3285 office@stgeo.comcastbiz.net

COVID-19 Updates

  • As of now, services and activities are suspended and will resume May 16th
  • We are currently working on being able to offer services remotely.
  • Church meetings will go on as scheduled, but we will hold them remotely, including the Vestry meeting on Tuesday the 17th.

Parish Retreat!

Ever wish for a way to disconnect from the busy-ness, take a “time out” and reconnect with what really matters in life? If so, be a part of Saint George’s Parish Retreat at The Claggett Center in Adamstown (Frederick County), Maryland. We’ll begin with dinner on Friday, April 17 and stay until mid-morning on Sunday, April 19. The cost is $258 for a single room and $228 per person ($456 total) for a double room.

Scholarship assistance is available, so do not let finances stand in your way. A sign-up sheet is on the church bulletin board. Stay tuned for further information, and check in with Margaret McHale if you have any questions in the meantime. And remember: it’s a Saint George’s event, so you know it will be a good time!
Lenten Outreach

It is the tradition of St. George’s, in keeping with the Lenten theme of giving, to make a special offering during the season of Lent. Each person is invited to give fifty cents a day, or $20 over the season of Lent, to an organization that helps those in need, as recommended by St. George’s Outreach and Social Justice committee. This year, we will support World Central Kitchen.

World Central Kitchen is a non-profit, founded by local Chef Jose Andres, that provides meals and help to people in crisis. While best known for their amazing effort feeding people in Puerto Rico after the hurricanes, they operate wherever they see a need. In the past year that included responding to 13 disasters, some natural and some man-made. They served food to children on our southern border, responded to crisis in places like Indonesia and Australia, and are right now on the ground in Japan providing food to quarantined travelers.

Workshop on Racism
Seeing the Face of God in Each Other is a free, two-day diocesan workshop that provides an opportunity for people of different racial and ethnic backgrounds to come together and hear one another’s life experience while learning about the history of institutionalized racism.

When Saint George’s hosted this worthwhile program a couple of weeks ago, some people were unable to attend. Good news! For those who could not manage the Friday-Saturday timing, the workshop will be offered at Grace Episcopal Church in Silver Spring on two consecutive Saturdays – March 14 and 21, from 8:30 to 4:00 each day. To register, go to the edow.org website, click on News & Events, then the Events Calendar for March 14 which will provide further information and a link to the registration site. Questions? Speak with Connie+ or Margaret McHale.
