Sign up to help with St. George’s Sandwich Ministry
Do you find yourself looking for a way to help others? Join your St. Geo’s friends who gather at the church and prepare sandwiches for Warm Nights clients on one Saturday morning a month. Warm Nights is the county homeless shelter program. Our next work day is December 18, and we’ll be preparing and packing 200 lunches starting at 8:45 am. We need 10-12 people and can usually complete the work in under two hours. Please sign up as early as you can using this link so that we can be sure we have enough volunteers: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0a4aaea62ba46-warm1 Many thanks. An Invitation to Advent Devotions – November 29, December 6 and December 13 This Advent, you are invited to engage in a time of group prayer and scripture study on the first three Mondays of the season. On November 29, December 6 and December 13 at 7 pm we will gather for prayer and reflection together on the Advent readings from the prophets. November 29 and December 6 will be via Zoom, Here is the link and on December 13 we will gather in person in the sanctuary. Consider making this your Advent devotion this year as a way of observing this season of preparation for Jesus' birth. Advent Wreath Making Today, November 28 This Sunday November 28 is the first Sunday in Advent, and you are invited to make an Advent wreath in Miller Hall following the 10:00 service that day. There will be rings and candle sets available from the church for a small donation or you can bring your ring from home. If you prefer, you can simply pick up the greens to take home. Winter Outerwear Drive We are currently collecting new and gently used coats and jackets, and new hats, scarves, and gloves for the students of Gaywood Elementary School in Seabrook. Gaywood students are in Pre-K to 5th grade, so Gaywood is primarily looking for sizes 5/6 to sizes 14/16. Because of concerns about covid, Gaywood initially asked that all items be new but they will also accept used coats and jackets that are in good condition and have been laundered or dry cleaned. Donations should be brought to St George's by Sunday 12/5 so that we can deliver them to Gaywood no later than Friday 12/10. Thank you for helping us support the Gaywood community. St. Nicholas Event Saturday December 4th at St. George’s We will celebrate the Feast of St. Nicholas on Saturday, December 4. The event for children will take place outdoors, with masks, in the parking lot and cemetery at St. George’s from 3:00-4:00pm. It will include some special activities and games, and perhaps even a visit by St. Nicholas himself! Hot and cold beverages and snacks will be provided. The Narthex will be open as a warming station in case of very cold weather. Families will need to sign up HERE prior to attending. Please mark down your name and how many from your family/group will be attending. Rain date will be Sunday Dec 5, same time. We will also be collecting new warm winter hats, scarves, gloves, and mittens for a donation to Gaywood Elementary School. Hospitality Volunteers Needed On Sunday Nov 7 St. George's had our first in-person hospitality in Miller since the pandemic started and it was a great success! A number of people stayed to enjoy food and fellowship and we'd like to do it again - but we need you. To offer hospitality moving forward we need volunteers to provide food, set it out, and clean up afterwards. Instruction is available on using the coffee maker, and the Vestry person on duty is always available to help. Currently there are volunteers to host on November 28, December 5 and December 12 and all are welcome to attend. If you can host on December 19 or 26, please let Junior Warden Peter Cooper know. He can be reached at [email protected]. |
