Update on Masking at St. George’s
With guidance from the diocese and input from the parish advisory group (Covid Nerds of St. George’s), parish leadership has determined that starting on the first Sunday in April, masks will be optional at St. George’s for those who are fully vaccinated. This may be a cause of rejoicing for some in the parish and it may be a source of anxiety for others, so we ask that each person respect the choices of those around us to mask or not mask. When you are at St. George’s please continue to exercise good judgment and sensitivity and refrain from asking anyone why they are or are not wearing a mask. Please pay attention to the body language and social cues of those you engage with and respect any wish for distance. We will continue the practice of waving, bowing, or sharing the peace sign when we pass the Peace, but feel free to move around the sanctuary and greet others as you feel comfortable. Please note that parish leadership will continue to monitor the situation regarding covid infection and be prepared to shift our practices as necessary. Please speak to Connie+ or the wardens if you have any concerns or questions. Bowie Food Pantry The monthly collection for the Bowie Food Pantry will take place on Sunday, April 10th. The foods they need most at this time are: Rice of any kind, Pasta sides, Canned meats, Canned soups - but NO chicken noodle Thank you for your generous donations each month. The people who receive food from the Bowie Food Pantry are most grateful. St. George’s Lenten Outreach 2022 It is a long-standing tradition of St. George’s to encourage parishioners to participate in St. George’s Lenten Outreach Project. Each year the Justice League (St. George’s outreach and social justice group) identifies charities as a focus for Lenten donations, and parishioners are invited to donate towards the identified project. This year the Justice League has chosen two organizations, the Haiti Micah Project and Books to Prisoners. Donations will be divided equally between the two organizations allowing us to serve two different populations with distinct needs. As you consider your Lenten practice this year, please consider a donation. If you set aside 50 cents a day, your donation at the end of Lent will be $20.00. Just $1.00 a day will provide $40 to support the needs of children in Haiti and those isolated in prison cells, some of whom may have grown up in our community. We hope to have a generous amount to contribute to these organizations at Easter. Sign Up to Make Lunches for the Warm Nights Guests St. George's is back in the sandwich business! Starting in March St. George's is responsible for making 100 lunches on the second Saturday of each month through 2022. Each lunch includes a sandwich, an apple, a bag of chips and a bottle of water. We are always looking for people to help. We start at 8:45 am and usually finish by 10. We also need people to donate water each month.
