Bowie Food Pantry Update

This Sunday, September 19, bring your donations with you to church or drop them off between 11:30 am and 12 noon.  (There will no longer be a drop off time from 1 to 2 PM.)  This month the greatest needs are:
  • Canned veggies-  ONLY spinach, beets, and carrots
  • Soups- ready to serve and condensed
  • Canned fruit or applesauce
  • Condiments- regular size- mustard, salad dressings, spices
  • Granola bars
The Justice League thanks you for all you do to help those who are experiencing food shortages. Good nutrition is a big part of good health! Questions? Contact Peggy Alexander at [email protected]

Get out the VOTE
Want to encourage more voters to participate in elections? As an outgrowth of the Sacred Ground dialogue on race and faith, you are invited to write postcards to remind Virginia voters of the November 2 election of a new governor and state legislature. The message is a simple reminder to vote; it does not endorse any particular candidate.

Postcards and postage are provided. Spend a few minutes writing cards in your most legible handwriting at a table set up after the 8 and 10 am services this Sunday, September 19. Contact Peggy Alexander at [email protected] with any questions.

Disaster relief and assistance: Haiti Earthquake, Afghanistan, and Hurricane Ida

Episcopal Relief & Development is responding with direct assistance to vulnerable households in Haiti following the recent devastating earthquake, as well as working with the Diocese of Louisiana in response to Hurricane Ida. Gifts of any amount will help alleviate suffering. Please visit www.episcopalrelief.org/haiti-relief or www.episcopalrelief.org/hurricane-relief to make a donation as your circumstances allow. To assist with resettlement in our area of refugees from Afghanistan, Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area offers multiple ways to assist. Visit the LSS website at https://lssnca.org/take_action/afghan-allies.html to donate much-needed financial or in-kind support, or to volunteer.

Book Study
Join our book study as we focus on Paul’s Second Letter to Timothy using a book entitled The Heart of a Leader: Saint Paul as Mentor, Model and Encourager by Edward S. Little.  The seven class sessions are held via Zoom on the second and fourth Mondays of the month through December 13 at 7 pm. Please contact Terry Doyle [email protected] to receive a copy of the book.
