Gaywood Elementary School Sock Collection
In response to learning that many Gaywood students lack enough socks, the Justice League began an on-going sock collection earlier this year. In particular, Gaywood needs kids' socks in solid white, navy and/or black. Donations can be left in the dedicated bin in the narthex. Many thanks! Bowie Food Pantry Collection May 12 For May, the Bowie Food Pantry is most in need of toothpaste, bar soap, tuna fish, and canned fruit, as well as stewed or diced tomatoes and tomato sauce. Please bring your donations to church on Mother's Day, May 12. The Bowie Food Pantry is very grateful for the strong support it receives from St. George's. Thank you! In Search of a New Nursery Attendant St. George's would like to start staffing the cry room again with a paid child care provider - and we need your help. If you know someone who might be interested and qualified to work in the cry room from 9:45 - 11:45 on Sunday mornings please have them call the office to set up an interview. The pay rate is competitive. Bible Study on Ruth and Esther Starts May 20 There are 156 Sundays in the three year cycle of the church readings (the lectionary) - and a total of 3 readings from the Book of Ruth and the Book of Esther show up. Which means you may not know much about either of these books of the Hebrew scriptures. But you can change that by participating in a Monday evening bible study this spring. The books are quite short but raise themes of loving-kindness and suffering, identity and foreignness, empowerment and reversal. If this sounds interesting to you, join us on Mondays at 7 pm starting May 20. The first and last sessions of the study will be in person and the others will be via zoom, so come to the church May 20 at 7. You can speak to Karen Horrocks, Terry Doyle, Jocelyn Tidwell or Connie+ with questions. There is a sign up sheet on the credenza - sign up today! International Potluck Celebrating Pentecost May 19 It is a beloved St. George's tradition to have the occasional "international potluck," inviting parishioners to bring a dish that is connected to their heritage or country of origin, or something that you or your family simply enjoy and want to share. This festival of Pentecost, all are invited to Miller Hall after the 10:00 am service for food and fellowship as the Holy Spirit makes her home among us. Hope to see you there! |
