Please Bring in Toiletries for the Bowie Food Pantry, FINAL WEEK
The middle and primary school Sunday School classes are leading a drive for personal care items to be donated to the Bowie Food Pantry for distribution to their clients. Here are the details from the kids: The people who use the Bowie Food Pantry have asked us to donate toiletries to them. If you could be so kind as to bring things like the following, we would be very grateful: we need toothpaste, toothbrushes, tampons, pads, soap, deodorant, lotion, shampoo, and conditioner. Hand sanitizer and tissues are okay too. Please bring full size (not mini or jumbo). Monetary donations are also welcome to help buy supplies. We (the kids) will collect these things the weeks of October 13 - November 3. Then we will sort them and deliver them to the Food Pantry. Please put these things in labeled the bin in the Narthex. Thank you! Jacket and Warm Clothing Drive From now through the end of November, we are collecting warm clothing, primarily outerwear, in support of the International Students Admission & Enrollment Office (ISAEO) of the Prince George’s County School System. ISAEO registers and provides support services for newly arrived international PGCPS students and their families. So far this fall, they've registered close to 3,000 students, including large families from Afghanistan, and many families from Venezuela, Guatemala, Mexico, and Cameroon. These families often arrive with almost nothing, and especially need clothing appropriate for Maryland winters. You can help support these children and their families by donating new or gently used coats and jackets (pre-school sizes through adult medium), as well as hats, scarves, and gloves. Please be sure any used items are clean and in good condition (zippers work, no missing buttons, no rips or tears, etc.). Donations should be placed in the bin in the narthex. For those who prefer, we are also collecting $25 Target gift cards which can be used to purchase other items students might need such as boots and uniforms; see Tom Beal to buy cards through St. George's scrip program and give the cards directly to Randy or Donna Haselton. Please see Donna Haselton if you have any questions. Thank you for your generosity! The Church Will be Open for Prayer 4 to 8 pm On Election Day On Tuesday, November 5 the sanctuary will be open for prayer from 4 to 8 pm. On the hour (4, 5, 6, 7, and 8) there will be a brief communal prayer with anyone who is present. Pledge Cards are Available Now – Please Make Your Pledge This is the season when we tend to our financial life as a parish and also reflect on the abundant life God has given us at St. George's. We are blessed to be part of this community where we find an abundance of connection, compassion, and love. Your pledge for 2025 makes a difference and allows us to continue our work to love, serve, pray and grow together for the life of the world. You can fill out a pledge card online HERE or a physical card found in your pledge packet or on the credenza. On Sunday, November 10 we celebrate God's abundance with special hospitality after each service. Thank you for your support of St. George's. |
