Potato and Onion Sunday is This Sunday
This Sunday we are asking folks to bring in potatoes or onions again. Please note the red potatoes don’t hold up as well as their larger, drier cousins (Russet or Yukon Gold). St. Georgians have sent hundreds of pounds of potatoes and onions to our Episcopal neighbor St. Matthew's in Hyattsville - let’s keep it going! St. Matthew’s monthly food pantry serves over 200 families each month, giving out non-perishable necessities and produce as available. To support this need of our neighbors for produce, we are working to be the "potato and onion" church on the Sunday before the second Thursday of each month. We are in need of volunteers to pack up the potatoes and onions, deliver them to St. Matthew's, and unpack them starting at 9:00 am on Wednesday, September 10. Please sign up if you can help. Become Adult Education Class Series begins Monday, September 29 You are invited to participate in an adult education class series beginning on Monday, September 29 called Become. This is a six-week program designed to explore the meaning of the five promises baptismal candidates make at baptism, the same promises that Episcopalians renew whenever we renew our baptismal covenant. Through Bible study, brief video teachings, and conversation, we will explore what it means to live as the Body of Christ in Christian community. Classes will be held on Zoom Mondays at 7pm beginning September 29 and ending November 3. There is a sign up sheet on the credenza. If you have any questions about Become, please speak to Connie+, Terry Doyle, or Karen Horrocks from the Adult Education Committee. Parish Picnic Sunday, September 14 St. George's Annual Picnic is on Sunday, September 14 following the 10 am worship service! The location is Fairwood Community Park pavilion in Bowie. The church will provide sandwiches and some games. Please sign up in the narthex so we have a headcount, and bring a side, dessert, or drinks to share, along with your favorite yard game!
