Potato and Onion Sunday December 7
The next potato and onion collection for Saint Matthew’s is December 7! Please bring your potatoes and onions to church ONLY on December 7. Early potatoes will start going bad in the bags. Our donation provides food for 200 families so we need to ensure that no food is wasted due to spoilage. Additionally, we need people to load and deliver the potatoes and onions to St. Matthew’s on Wednesday, December 10. Drivers meet at St. George’s at 9 am to load and deliver the food. There is a sign up sheet in the narthex to volunteer. Thanks for your support and help! Jacket and Outerwear Drive From now through the end of November, we are collecting jackets, coats and other outerwear in support of the International Students Admission & Enrollment Office (ISAEO) of the Prince George’s County School System. ISAEO registers and provides support services for international students throughout the PGCPS system. You can help support these children and their families by donating new or gently used coats, jackets, and other outerwear such as fleeces and puffy vests (pre-school sizes through adult medium), as well as hats, scarves, and gloves. Please be sure any used items are clean and in good condition (zippers work, no missing buttons, no rips or tears, etc.). Donations should be placed in the bin in the narthex. For those who prefer, we are also collecting $25 Target gift cards to purchase other items students might need such as boots and uniforms; see Ed Neuschler to buy cards through St George's scrip program and give the cards to Randy or Donna Haselton. Please see Donna with any questions. Thank you for your generosity! Angels of the Bible Advent Program “All Christians are called to ponder the impossible, to look between the worlds at the mystical possibilities that made the Incarnation possible. Angels brought the message about Jesus to Mary. Angels sang before the shepherds and appeared to Joseph in dreams. Let us find them amidst the pages of scripture and wonder at their variety and magnificence, for these are the messengers of God.” - From Angels of the Bible: Finding Grace, Beauty and Meaning by Kate Moorehead with Scott Brown. This Advent and Epiphany we will use Moorehead's book to explore scriptural and artistic depictions of these messengers of God we call angels. Is your curiosity piqued? Pick up a book and participate in the group reflections on our reading. We will meet Monday nights at 7:00 pm on Zoom HERE, on December 1, 8 and 15, and January 5, 12, 19, 26 and February 2. Advent Wreath Making This Sunday On Sunday, November 30, the first Sunday of Advent, there will be materials available to make an Advent wreath in Miller Hall after services. Bring your ring if you have one; rings and sets of candles will be available to purchase. If you have greens from your yard to contribute, they are most welcome! The St. Nicholas Party is Saturday, December 6 St. George's annual St. Nicholas party is on Saturday, December 6 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm. All children and their adults are invited to come decorate the parish tree, engage in crafts, food and fun, and see if Bishop St. Nicholas makes an appearance. There are sign-up sheets to let us know how many can attend as well as volunteers needed to bring food and help with setup and cleanup. All are invited to bring a food donation for the Bowie Food Pantry (they need tuna, condiments, and pasta sauce) and a warm clothing donation for the international students of Prince George's County schools (children's hats, scarves, and mittens; new or gently used). If you have any questions please contact Jessica Johnson. At 10 AM this morning we will start streaming the service. Pledge Cards and Potatoes This Sunday
This Sunday is our Stewardship Ingathering, the day when we come to give our praise and thanks to God, celebrating God's abundance and St. George's generosity and commitment by returning our pledge cards. You can find cards on the credenza, on the table coming into the sanctuary, or by asking any Stewardship Team member for one. Your pledge for 2026 makes a difference and allows us to continue our work to love, serve, pray and grow together for the life of the world. If you prefer, fill out your pledge card online HERE. There is special hospitality after each service as we gather in gratitude and fellowship. This Sunday is also our Potato and Onion Sunday, St. George's support of our neighbor parish San Mateo's feeding program where everyone is invited to bring in a bag (or more) of potatoes and/or onions. Our donation provides food for close to 250 families. Additionally, we need people to load and deliver the potatoes and onions to St. Matthew’s on Wednesday, November 12. Drivers meet at St. George’s at 9 am to load and deliver the food. There is a sign up sheet in the narthex to volunteer. Thanks for your support.
