Bowie Food Pantry September 8
Our monthly collection for the Bowie Food Pantry will take place on September 8. The Pantry is looking for tuna, low sugar cereal, ravioli, beefaroni, and tomato products such as diced, stewed, and paste. They also welcome donations of fresh produce! Thanks for continuing your strong support of the Bowie Food Pantry! Second Sunday Praying the Prayer Beads September 8 After the 10 am service on second Sundays, join others to pray the prayer beads for common concerns out in the world or in our lives. See or contact Helen Rowe HERE with any questions. Marietta House Museum Talk September 4 Helen Rowe will talk about the history of St. George’s and its connections to Marietta House. Please come to support her and hear more of our history on Wednesday, September 4, from noon to 1pm, at the Marietta House Museum at 5626 Bell Station Road, Glenn Dale, MD 20769. It is a free program and registration is recommended but not required. Feel free to bring a bag lunch. You can register HERE. A recording of the presentation will be available at a later date. Parish Picnic September 15 St. George's Annual Picnic is on Sunday, September 15 following the 10 am worship service! The location will be at Highbridge Park in Bowie (6800 Highbridge Rd, 8 minutes by car from the church). The church will provide sandwiches, cake, and some games. Please sign up in the narthex so we have a headcount, and bring a side, dessert, or drinks to share, along with your favorite yard game! Carpooling encouraged due to limited parking. "Blessing of the Backpacks" This Sunday
At services on August 25 any students or teachers who are beginning the new school year are invited to come forward for a special blessing and receive a backpack tag. Marietta House Museum Talk September 4 Helen Rowe will talk about the history of St. George’s and its connections to Marietta House. 10 Plastic Half-Gallon Milk Containers
Martha Willingham Hazen is looking for ten plastic half-gallon milk containers by Sunday, August 18 for a project. Drop one off with her at services today, or contact her directly HERE for more options or information. August 25 Service The services at 8 and 10 am on Sunday, August 25 will have a healing theme. The service includes a litany of healing and at the time of Communion you are welcome as you feel comfortable to go to stations where a member of our Pastoral Care Team will offer prayers for healing and laying of hands. Bowie Food Pantry Collection This Sunday
This month they have asked us for low sugar cereals, canned fruit, applesauce, peanut butter, and jelly. Additionally, if your garden has been very productive this summer, the pantry would love to have any extra fruits or vegetables. Everything that is donated is brought to the Bowie Food Pantry on Monday morning, so it could be distributed very quickly if you are worried about fresh fruits or vegetables. Once again, thank you for your continuing support of the Bowie Food Pantry. Gaywood Uniform Drive Gaywood’s mandatory uniform policy for all students is a financial challenge for some Gaywood families. To assist, we are holding a uniform drive from now until August 18 asking for donations of the following items: Polo shirts Light blue, white, or navy blue (solid color) Short or long-sleeve Jumpers, skirts, skorts Navy blue (solid) Sweaters Any color (solid) Pants and shorts Navy blue Basic “chino” style (NO flared pants, spandex, sweatpants, corduroy, jeans, or cargo pants) Sizes XS to XL (Students are pre-K to 5th grade) The full Gaywood uniform policy is HERE. Where to buy: Uniforms are available at many retailers, in store and/or online, including Target, The Children’s Place, Amazon, Kohl’s, JCPenney, Macy’s, Walmart, and Lands’ End. Some popular uniform brands are Cat & Jack (at Target), The Children’s Place (at The Children’s Place and on Amazon), and French Toast. Please note that clothing in Maryland will be tax free this week starting today through Saturday! On Friday, August 9 at 7 pm, come by the church with a snack or drink to share and a favorite board or card game.
