Support the Youth Mission Trip!
The mission trip is coming up in a month and the youth group will be headed to Logan County, West Virginia the last week of June. We appreciate the current and previous support from the parish and invite your continued support. You can attend the post mission trip dinner on July 20 at 5 pm in Miller Hall - tickets are $15 and available now! You can also buy a raffle ticket to win dinner for eight with Bishop Mariann in her home - those tickets are also $15. Also available for purchase are personalized hot/cold cups supplied by our own Madison Brady. Regular red or blue cups are at $17 and personalized cups are $22. Dinner and Bishop raffle tickets are for sale now and you can find youth group members after church in the narthex from now until the post-trip dinner. The July 20 dinner is when the Bishop dinner raffle winner is announced. We have a Bake Sale this Sunday, Parents Night out this Friday (5/30), and a Car Wash next Sunday (6/1). 

Let's Make it a Potato Pentecost
On Sunday, June 8, the day we celebrate Pentecost, we are asking folks to bring in 10 pounds of potatoes or onions (or both)! St. Matthew’s, one of our neighboring Episcopal churches, has a monthly food pantry that serves over 200 families each month. Along with non-perishable necessities, they also give out produce as available - which is where St. George's comes in. To support this need of our neighbors, The Justice League would love to see St. George's become the "potato and onion" church on the first or second Sunday of each month. We will continue our support for the Bowie Food Pantry and move that collection to another Sunday.

Ministry Fair Sunday, June 8
Please join us during the hospitality hour on Sunday, June 8 for the Ministry Fair. This is your opportunity to learn more about all of the ministries that keep St. George’s running. Representatives will be available from each ministry to talk about their ministry and sign up anyone who wants to participate. If you have ever had a question about how to become a Lay Eucharistic Ministers or help out the Justice League, this is your chance to get that question answered! If you have any questions about the Ministry Fair itself, please speak to Karen Horrocks or any member of the vestry. 

2025 Pride Events in May and June
• Join St. George’s on Saturday, May 31 at 11 am for the Annapolis Pride Parade. Please join us, wearing your brightly colored St. George's Church t-shirts if you have one! There is a sign up sheet on the credenza, please use it, we need an accurate headcount. If you are able, please consider making a monetary donation to offset the cost of parade giveaways. • St. George's is also invited to join the Episcopal Diocese of Washington (EDOW) group for the DC Capital Pride Parade on Saturday, June 7, starting around 2 pm (Meet up at 12:30 pm). Please use the separate sign up sheet, Michael and Mary will send you the information from EDOW.

The focus for our adult spiritual formation program for this summer (June 1 to July 31) is Praying the Psalms. There are two ways of participating: on a daily basis with listings of psalms provided by Forward Movement and its Good Book Club; and/or by taking part in a series of workshops that will highlight various modalities for praying the psalms. Save the date for an orientation meeting on Zoom on Tuesday, May 27 at 7:00 pm when we explore these options. See the full details in the announcement HERE.

• The Chesapeake Baysox hold their Pride Night on Thursday, May 29 for their 6:35 pm game against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (AA affiliate of the NY Mets). There is a sign-up sheet to gauge interest in the game and if there's enough for group tickets (20) we will see about getting a block of tickets reserved. This is the last Sunday to sign up.

Praying the Psalms

The main resource that we will use to guide daily prayers with the psalms will be commentaries from the Good Book Club, a ministry of Forward Movement. At our orientation meeting on May 27, we will highlight how you can choose either of two tracks: Track 1 will feature 61 psalms—one for each day in the two-month period—while Track 2 will include all 150 psalms with multiple psalms per day that are designated.

We suggest that you use any text of the psalms that you prefer such as the Book of Common Prayer (or any other prayer book); or your favorite Bible translation such as the NRSV, etc. Again, at the orientation meeting we will explore some of the many options, including how to locate different translations of the Bible online.

We will also add further guidance to explore various modalities for praying the psalms with optional workshops that you might elect to attend. Note: it is also perfectly fine to just attend the workshops. Save these calendar dates at times:

• Tuesday, June 10 at 7:00 pm on Zoom for Praying the Psalms with Anglican Prayer Beads. This is a contemplative method of praying the psalms.
• Monday, June 23 at 7:00 pm at St. George’s for Praying the Psalms with Chant. We will use a simplified method for giving voice and embodiment to the words of a psalm using the prayer book as well as other types of sources.
• Friday, July 11, 5:30-7:30pm at the Bowie Senior Center and Saturday July 12, 9:30am at Brookside Gardens, Wheaton to Pray the Psalms while walking a Labyrinth or using a hand-held labyrinth. These will be free in-person events at local labyrinths— stay tuned for further details.
• Monday, July 21 at St. George’s for Praying the Psalms with Postures to Pray with Body, Heart and Soul. We will explore a range of types of gestures and postures.

At our orientation meeting on May 27, we will also provide an overview of each of these methods.

There will be sign-up sheet in the narthex if you would like to be included in the program. In addition, we will have a print-out for the two tracks for the daily lists of psalms. Or you can call the office to be signed up and to request a digital copy of the psalm lists.

Bowie Food Pantry Collection This Sunday
For the month of May, the Bowie Food Pantry has a very diverse list of needed items. They are condiments, canned fruit/apple sauce cups, canned tomato products- diced, stewed, etc., either regular or low sodium, personal care items- shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste. Please bring your donations to the church this Sunday. Thank you for supporting the Bowie Food Pantry so faithfully!
 
Welcoming Ministry – Looking for Sunday Morning Greeters
St. George's is revitalizing our Welcoming Ministry! We are looking for volunteers to serve as Greeters for the 10 am service. Serving as a greeter can be a simple and fun way to help us create a vibrant community here at St. George's. The primary responsibilities of the greeter are welcoming people at the front door; making sure people have bulletins and service booklets; and seeing that newcomers receive a welcome kit and are introduced to the VPOD for the day. A signup sheet for Greeters will be in the narthex. If you have questions or would like more information, please talk to Ali Oliver-Krueger or Zulma Santiago. Thank you!

Amazing News About Our Undue Medical Debt Project
Our efforts to relieve medical debt in Prince George’s County exceeded our hopes. Our final total of just over $20,000 abolished $2,699,585.91 of debt. Our effort relieved 1,420 people in Prince George’s County of the burden of medical debt. Thanks to all of you who helped make this challenging effort so successful.

Flower Ministry Updates
First, do you have peonies, hydrangeas, irises, or other flowers to share with St. George’s? Contact Nell Sydavar  to let your garden's bounty be seen here at church. Secondly, we use small glass yogurt containers to send the flowers around the Easter candle home with others. If you have any, would you please bring them in? Yoplait Oui, Nounos, and La Fermiere are some brands that come in glass. 

Confirmation is Saturday May 10 at the National Cathedral
Elizabeth Dixon, Jordan Howen, Margi Tarkalanova, and Jocelyn Tidwell have spent the past four months meeting weekly and learning, praying, and growing together on their confirmation journey. That journey culminates on Saturday, May 10 when they are confirmed by the bishop at a 10:00 am service at the Washington National Cathedral. All are invited and welcome to attend the service and support St. George's confirmands.
