Potato and Onion Sunday is Sunday, May 10
Sunday, May 10 is the potato and onion collection for Saint Matthew’s (we do ask that you not bring your produce early or it will sprout). Our donation provides food for over 275 families. Additionally, we need people to load and deliver the potatoes and onions to St. Matthew’s on Wednesday, May 13. Drivers meet at St. George’s at 9 am to load and deliver the food. There is a sign up sheet in the narthex to volunteer. Confirmation at the Cathedral Saturday, May 9 at 10:00 am On Saturday, May 9 four members of St. George's will be confirmed or reaffirm their faith at the Confirmation service at the Washington National Cathedral. The service is at 10:00 am and all are welcome and invited to come support the 2026 St. George's Confirmation class of Sarah DeMaio, James DeMaio, Grace Blackard, and Mary Rogers. Trivia Night Mission Trip Fundraiser Friday, May 8 at 7:00 pm Put your useless knowledge to good use on Friday, May 8, from 7:00–9:00 pm for a Trivia Night where the competition is fierce and the prizes are delightfully pointless! Admission is a donation of any size (suggested $10-$15) at the door to support our Youth Group’s mission trip to Philadelphia this July. Bring your cell phone to participate in the game and an appetite for the delicious snacks our teens are whipping up (along with soft drinks). Come prove you’re a "know-it-all," stay for the fellowship, and help our youth reach the City of Brotherly Love! The number of interested people is helpful for planning, so there is a sign up sheet on the credenza. Music Director Ruslan Bondar Concert with the AVAS Choir This Sunday at 3:00 pm
Ruslan invites us to his concert with the Arundel Vocal Arts Society this Sunday, April 26 at 3:00 pm. Their program, Awake to Light, brings together works that invite us into a journey of awakening, light, and joy. It includes J. S. Bach’s cantata Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (BWV 140), Cantate Domino by Mark Hayes, and Illuminare by contemporary American composer Elaine Hagenberg. See the choir's website for more info HERE. The Deacon’s Role and Ministry Sunday, May 3 at 11:30 am Deacons are a part of the ordained leadership of The Episcopal Church. In 2012, Bishop Mariann Budde ordained the first deacons for the Episcopal Diocese of Washington. The deacon is a servant leader who is the Church’s and their Bishops’ emissary to the community. As a result of being present in the community, they ascertain the community’s needs, hopes, and concerns and bring these needs, hopes, and concerns, especially those of the marginalized, to the Church. If you would like to learn more about the deacon’s role and mission, our deacon intern, Wendy Pohlhaus, is giving a presentation explaining the deacon’s ministry after the 10 am service on Sunday, May 3.
